I got interested in fluid art after noticing some artists doing it on Instagram #FOMO
It looked so pretty and I thought it was simple too :P I don't think simple is the right word. It's pretty much luck in my opinion.
The use of the oil is to create cells. It can turn out nice but I have some people who tells me that the cells looked like vomit #LOL. Whatever it is, fluid art can turned out pretty but it's a long drying process. The preparation itself is longer then creating it.
I tried to use different oils at the beginning as substitute for silicone oil (I've even tried olive oil...doesn't really give the results I was hoping for :P) which I am surprised, is hard to find here. I have to purchased mine online (advertised as personal lubricant :P). I'm trying to get my hands on floetrol when I was told that people who used floetrol will not go back to using silicone oil. But it's even harder to find floetrol. Online doesn't ship to Malaysia. I asked one of the artist about it and although she told me where she got hers, she said it goes out fast. I looked for the branch near my place and it's out of stock too. I'm still on a lookout for it. (Update June 2020: I found it at Ace Hardware Publika! But I have yet to try it out)
Above: Fluid art with silicone oil
Above: These are very small flat canvases, slightly bigger than my palm, which I created using leftover paint from the large canvases. Fluid art can be really wasteful on paint, so we can use smaller canvases to create.
Above: This fluid art have no silicone oil in it. And it still looked good :)
