How I Started Selling on Etsy

Updated: Oct 25, 2024

I never thought I’d start an Etsy store. Between work, family, and life’s daily chaos, there wasn’t much time left for creative pursuits. But life nudges me in a new direction (actually I always knew but took me a while to get to it). That’s how I found myself on Etsy, and now, here I am – running The Quiet Sagittarius for over a year. The name reflects my personality: a quieter, introspective Sagittarius who finds comfort in solitude and creativity. Though I’ve been on this journey for awhile now, I’ve never blogged about it before – until today :)

Back in 2017, I actually opened The Quiet Sagittarius on Etsy, initially selling my handmade crafts, including paintings I created during sleepless nights (I have insomnia). But soon after launching, life got busy with home, kids, and work, and it became difficult to manage it all. So, I put the shop on hold.

Fast forward to 2023, when things finally settled down a bit, I decided to relaunch my Etsy store. This time, I shifted my focus to selling digital products, like pintables. I had been searching for some myself and realized that I could easily create them – and I loved doing it! These creative moments became my way to unwind and reconnect with my artistic side.

When I first restarted my shop, I didn’t know what to expect. I began by designing simple planners, just to get the hang of the newer design tools that had evolved over the years. That’s when I discovered Canva, and it opened up so many possibilities. Since then, there have been plenty of ups and downs. Some products didn’t perform as well as I hoped, while others took off unexpectedly. But through it all, I’ve learned that selling on Etsy is more than just a business – it’s about sharing something I’m truly passionate about.

What keeps me going? It’s not just the sales – it’s the connection with people who resonate with my work. Every review, every message from someone telling me how my products have inspired or helped them reminds me why I started this journey. For me, The Quiet Sagittarius has become more than just a shop. It’s a creative outlet and a space where I can truly express myself.

This journey has allowed me to embrace my creativity, connect with others, and grow in ways I never imagined. If you’ve ever thought about starting your own creative venture, my advice is simple: take the leap. It doesn’t have to be on Etsy – it could be any platform or avenue that feels right for you. The important thing is to start somewhere. You never know where it might lead.
